Imitation of Christ began in LA in 2000 as something much stranger and more delightful than any typical label. Started by Tara Subkoff and Matthew Damhave as a conceptual art project-not just clothes.From the beginning they worked with recycled vintage and thrifted pieces, hand-sewing and re-imagining them way before it was cool. Their early shows were legendary, remember the runway show in a funeral parlor. They were making something new out of old and giving garments a second life.
